EMT1 is Ambulance driver//grunt. My friend is one for AMR and another has been for years. He was in nursing school but decided to become a cop instead (god help anyone that has to deal with him in that capacity).

I can go to school for a semester and become an EMT here in community college...

If you want to go med - go bigger and become paramedic level. Use them for their training.

i don't know that they offer any certs past EMT1, but at the very least i'll have a head-start. like i said, they pay for college, so whatever i want to do after basic/AIT is pretty much open.

Yeah, if you do have the opportunity, go farther than EMT. Ryan's right- I did it with a semester of night classes while I was at Cal, and to be honest it's pretty damn braindead. If you want to push meds, run lines, or answer 911 calls in most places, you want to be a medic.
