Remember that the E46es ar 2.7 turns lock to lock, while the E30s are 4 turns. Makes quite a difference.

Things to have to get really hairy for the E46 to start displaying its evil handling characteristics. Unfortunately, it's such a confidence inspiring chassis that you aren't ready for it when it tries to kill you.

yeah- but other than that it was almost eerie how it felt a whole lot like an evolution of the e30- there is definitely shared character & dna between the two chassis.

& re: the rest- granted, hence my disclaimer in the original post- i am insured by work on anything i drive, but such a claim would probably cost me my job, so yeah... i tested the car's envelope rather than the limit of my skill :)
