so i saw one of these on the way to work today:

yellow, just like the one pictured.

what is it? a Seat (a.k.a. Fiat) Leon Cupra R.

why is that significant? because even though the engine specs will look familiar to anyone who knows the VW 1.8T, and the chassis is basically a reskinned Golf, this model was never approved by the DOT for public road use in the states; the last US-legal Fiat arrived on our shores about 20 years ago. (since then, the company was acquired by VAG, Volkswagen's parent company; hence the hardware-sharing with more familiar cars.)

counting the Audi A3 2-door hatch i spotted going the other direction on the same freeway in october, that's two cars that "aren't supposed" to be driving public roads in this country in as many months... so i'm thinking there must be a VAG proving ground somewhere either north or south of Phoenix on the 17.

the other reason it was wierd is that 3 minutes earlier i'd spotted an early-model Viper GTS going the other direction; and that also made 2 cars from the RealGTA3 mod patch spotted in a single day.

but after that, my commute to work in my sprinter i mean bimmer was uneventful.

in other news, i'm a dumbass and left my paycheck in my roommate's car while he's out in tucson for 2 days. *eyeroll*
