so why is it
that they call this
the "real" world?
nothing that matters here is real
your credit rating
equity on your condo
your rental history
your salary
values and variables
bits and bytes
in someone else's computer
and yet
they're your whole fucking identity
you can breathe without them
but that's about it
what have i been doing for six years?
"building a career"?
in "today's economy" it looks like
i've barely managed to build up to the next step down
and nothing that is real matters here

it bothers me that it seems the only way to acheive happiness is to ignore an awful lot of things.

My secret to life:

90% of lifes problems will resolve themselves.
9% of lifes problems, if they don't get solved, people will have forgotten in two weeks, and won't matter.

That just leaves 1%of the shit that you really have to deal with.

This leaves plenty of time to relax and not stress.

Re: ummm...

Either that or hasn't been negetively affected by the downturn in the economy. when you go lost $15k off your salary or more you HURT. When it get's to the point that you're making 50% less than you used to you have to question what the fucking point of it all is. Then again if you have a job in a tech related field period you should be damn thankful you have a job *period* I've taken a huge pay cut, I'm now a *junior designer* woo fucking hoo, and I'm only now starting to get some respect in my office and all because I'm 26 aka *the kid* I have a job so I'm thankful. I live at home, that sux, but atleast I have a place to stay. I think I f33l like bitching.

hope things turn around for you jason =)

Re: ummm...

While I have kept my job and my salary, I have been helping support several less fortunate friends, so I do know the hurt.

yeah, well, what about the fact that the fundamental principles on which our society is founded are highly fucked?

that will not solve itself OR go away in two weeks.

No, but those problem's generally fall under the catagory of problems that you can not solves, and stressing over them is a waste of time. If the issues are bothing you to a degree that they affect your daily life, pack your bags and move to Amsterdam, Vancouver B.C., or any other place withe more sensable laws.

Uhhh... dude... it's a live journal. This is where people are supposed to vent about shit like that the last time I checked.

Re: uhh

This was a broad generization, not specifically about using a diary to vent. Either way, I don't think I specified that people couldn't or shouldn't vent, merely that a lot of people get stress over little stuff that doesn't matter or things they have no control over. Stressing over spilling some milk is stupid. Stressing over things you have no control over is a waste of energy. Stressing over making your rent IS something worth stressing over, in that it's something you can control and affect, and having someplace to live is important. Stressing over what I say in response to other peoples LJ's is stupid. When I post in yours, feel free to get uppity.

Re: uhh

This isn't your live journal either so I think I will feel free to respond. I'm not posting in yours so don't "stress" about it. ;)
The last thing I'm stressin over is an lj entry. Besides, I didn't mean any harm man. Uppity ain't what I am. I agree that wasting time stressing over certain things isn't necessary. But, some things are a bigger deal to some than others. And, untill we all know exactly what it is like to walk in each others shoes, I don't think we can really assume we know where to place value for each other.
If that isn't what you were trying to say, than it's all good.
