gecko update, from the roomie:

"exodus is hungry and smart. he had a little trouble with the first (very unfortunate) cricket, which stayed trapped in his jaws, kicking pathetically for several minutes (and i mean like... ten) until he eventually got frustrated and digested him whole. thereafter, he seemed to discover that the trick to disabling a cricket is to either trap or remove the hind legs. the next 2 crickets were hunted quickly and died quickly. exodus then crawled under some newsprint, where he is now chillin'.

oh - and the guy at a reptile store down in mesa suggested that he's probably a mediterranean gecko, in case youre interested. :o)"

not actually my hand, obviously, and exodus is a little lighter-colored, but other than that it's close.

---

we signed a lease this morning on a 2nd-story end-unit in a north scottsdale complex called crown court. 8.5/10 on the "nice place" scale. at 26 years old, i am on my first lease ever; and so i sacrifice my off-the-grid lifestyle for stability, and a dining-room view of the complex's back pool.

cute little gecko :D although, now i'm petrified that one is going to jump out at me in Chuck's apartment

i doubt it- they're very skittish. & yeah, thunderbird is on the north side, but it runs all the way from the east to west sides of town, so we might be close, might not.

& he's like right off of I-17. Like, a block if that. his complex is like 2140 w. thunderbird. :) considering you both like cars & going fast & other stuff I'm guessing you two would get along grandly.

oh man, too bad- before i moved in with current roomie i was one exit north of him on the 17 (union hills, right near the honeywell complex). i work nights so i don't know how much opportunity we'd have to hang out, but feel free to point him at my email addy :)

There is no story -- he lit my hair on fire!! With a bic lighter when we were smoking a bowl in Amber's room!

Michael lit me on fire two weeks ago. He flicked a bic at my sweater and it went "poof!" I think this is a pattern. I need to stop dating arsonists.

or maybe you need to stop pissing people off to the point where they attempt to burn you in effigy, without the dummy. :P

Gecko? Really? It looks like the eleventy billion lizards that live in my parents' backyard in florida. Are those things crawling around all over in AZ or do you think it was a pet that got lost.

well, AFAIK, geckos are the only lizards who can walk on walls or ceilings (which is where we found exodus, chilling upside-down just inside the door). but i could be mistaken on this.

wasn't the first one i've seen though, a few days previous there was one half the size (like, the length of the last segment of my thumb) right outside our door. emily mentioned seeing one in her laundry room as well, so i don't think they're incredibly uncommon.

The lizards in FL were on all kinds of vertical surfaces, but everything is stucco and really textury, so maybe that doesn't count.

If they're in Florida, it was probably a gecko!

I am pretty sure you were on the lease at Tamalpais -- all four of us were. Weren't we?

No. All I remember was my false proclivity for gardening, and that the realtor was a nasty cunt.
