disparaging comments from dawgbuddha last weekend provided the impetus to put out a new mix that's gonna knock all of your fucking socks off, once i collect about... 15 more records.

for now, i've returned my roomie's 50cc scooter to operating state, and therefore am off to go enjoy the fruits of my labor, and maybe flirt with that cute brunette from the pet store.

he was already teh ghey. (j/k fuzzball ;)

eh, you know how it goes- just shit talk between friends. he would never have bought decks if it wasn't for me and he knows it :)

in the same conversation i got more shit for saying "i'd buy another pioneer, IMO they're still good mixers". *that* actually irked me... buncha elitist fucks... i don't see what's so great about the xone anyway, even on a moderate setup like we had last weekend my headphones (well not mine, but whoever's MDR's they were) started clipping before i could properly hear them over master... & i swear my old 500 actually cleaned up the sound coming out of my computer.

man, i hate when i ramble in a comment.

pioneer is a crutch mixer for too many shitty dj's. that damn blinky button needs to be super glued in an off state. no more flanger. no more delay. no more effects bs. What it does do well is be simple and easy to use. Much like a childrens toy you can pick it up and play with it quickly. That's a good thing. It needs to be built with a more solid feeling.

The Xone is a clean mixer when it comes to sound in theory. The construction in bullet proof. The layout of the mixer is somewhat odd and the lack of a good crossover curve adjustment kinda kills it. Much like the DJM-500/600 the Xone needs to have the VCF knobs glued in an off position. The dual midrange eq's can be a tad confusing. OK. Very confusing.

Honestly the mixer that I really enjoy playing with is Andrew's Vestax PMC 07pro. That damn thing is bullet proof. It's a 2ch scratch mixer, but it's so silky and yet solid feeling. It would be great if Pioneer built a road ready mixer that felt a bit more solid and dumped the goofy effects. Xone needs to make their mixers more user friendly and dump the VCF filter.

What it all really comes down to is preference. If I were to get a Pioneer I would get the 600 for the cue to master fade adjustment that the 500 lacks. Oh and you were probably using my v500's which have horrible low end bass response. Especially if you're used to v700's which are waaaay too bass heavy.

indeed- if it does what i need it to, a simple interface is better than "fine". i never had to hunch over and hunt around on my 500 in the dark... & you know how i never bothered with the "button" on mine...

the only part of it i thought needed to feel more solid was the crossfader; i was constantly forgetting that was the one slider with NO resistance. i still mostly mix w/ channel levels because of that...

nah, check the 2nd picture i linked in my previous entry... i think those were mike's.

but yeah, i'm hoping to pick up a 600 on the cheap now that they've been superseded... sometime, anyway.

Well - mp3's, virtual turntables (download), and if you have 2 sound cards you're set. One card for the headphones and one for you main output. You can pick up SB Audigy cards for dirt cheap now. All in all you could have a virtual setup that would teach you the basics of beat matching and give you a feel for whether it's something you want to pursue in vinyl form. It's not a cheap hobby which is why I stick to the mp3 action and play with my roommates extensive selection.
